At Brobel Design, one of my main responsibilities was to help publish the HMH Kids Discover K-6 Social Studies Program, a joint project between Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH) and Kids Discover (KD). This was an incredible project in both scale and timeframe, turning over 88 new issues in 10 months, on top of revising dozens of existing issues.
Working directly with the KD CEO and his team in Manhattan, an editor in Brooklyn, a cartoonist in Wichita, Kansas, and authors scattered around the Tri-State area, this project required constant communication and revisions throughout the 10 months.
I designed the spreads of nearly all of these new magazines, capturing the iconic style of Kids Discover, while adding a fresh look to captivate the broad range of young readers and their parents and teachers. At the end of the long project, we converted all this content onto their existing web platform by adding interactive features to bring the content to life. Finally, the Brobel Creative Director and I completely redesigned their sales catalog to show case these new issues for the coming school year.
